A Message from Sapphire Coast Buslines
Good morning, All
It’s very early in the school year but there has been a number of school hats (and some other property) found on buses already. The common factor in every case this year is that the articles are not labelled with the owner’s name. In these cases, we are obliged to retain the property for a period of 3 months. At the end of that time, unclaimed property can be disposed of by the Company in the most appropriate way. Often, the property is returned to the school for addition to any store of 2nd hand uniform that might be kept by the school. In other cases, property is donated to charity, or it may be destroyed.
We ask parents to label hats, jumpers / jackets, pencil cases and drink bottles with the student’s name. In the case of older items, check that any labelling can still be easily read.
For those students who carry mobile phones, we find that almost all phones are in protective cases. A note left inside the back of a case with the owner’s name and an alternate contact number will facilitate the return of the device. Ear pods and ear pod charging cases was another item that we found many examples of in 2022. In every instance, the cases were NOT labelled. We found it very difficult to return the property to the owner unless we were called.
In cases where the name of an owner is on the property, we have almost a perfect record for returning the property in a timely manner. Where the property IS NOT labelled, our record of returning items is not as high.
Regards
Bill
